Wholesale Florists – Key Suppliers of Flowers Worldwide

Flowers, of course, are the number one ingredient or resource for florists.  Without flowers a florist wouldn’t be in business.  So, it comes without surprise that buying flowers is a major task for any florist.  Where do florists get their flowers?  Who do they trust as suppliers?  Most retail florists buy their flowers from wholesale florists.

A wholesale florist purchases flowers in bulk directly from flower growers or flower farms.  Wholesale florists then offer the flowers for sale to retail florists.  Wholesale florists can either be local to retail florists and sell their bulk flowers at established wholesale flower markets or be remote (i.e., located in another city or state) and provide direct shipping and delivery of their bulk flowers to retail florists.

A fairly recent phenomenon is the advent of  internet wholesale florists who provide their flowers for sale directly over the internet.  Just google the term wholesale florists and you’ll find a plethora of wholesale flower suppliers.

When choosing to do business with wholesale florists, it is important for florists to understand the entire flower supply chain including shipment and receiving dates.  There are primary shipment days from flower farms (Friday’s and Monday’s with deliveries to the wholesale florist on Sunday’s and Wednesday’s), however shipments do occur pretty much everyday.

The freshest flowers are those that have been harvested, shipped, and processed according to cold storage supply chain and shipping standards.  Choose wholesale florists that partner with their suppliers (flower growers and flower farms) who follow the cold storage supply chain and shipping standards.

The next trend coming will be wholesale florists that specialize in providing flowers that have been grown pesticide free and environmentally friendly – the “green” wholesale florists!  “Green” wholesale florists provide benefits on multiple levels.  They demonstrate a commitment to supporting flower growers who provide a safe working environment for their employees and respect the environment.
