The Art of Floral Design – Florists, Gardeners, Painters, Interior Designers …the art of floral design

Studies have shown that flowers have a positive effect on human emotions. Perhaps that is why throughout the ages flowers have been a part of people’s lives. People learned long ago that having flowers around the home, places of work, places of socialization, or even wearing them help to make people feel happy. The art of floral design has had a major influence on the happiness of human lives throughout time.

From fresh centerpiece arrangements at dinner time, to grand presentations in welcoming halls, to artwork hanging on the walls, the art of floral design is everywhere we look around us. Even in nature there is beauty to be found when paying attention to what it has to offer us.

The art of floral design is more than the flower arrangement that most people think of when hearing the term floral design. Surely a florist is one form of an artist who happens to work with flowers, and they can absolutely create some fabulously looking floral designs. There are other artist types that need to be mentioned which many people forget about.

There are flower gardeners or garden clubs that take pride in planting and growing pretty flowers in special gardens they tend in their yards, perhaps plantings around a statue at an intersection, and even areas along highways that have been adopted for care and maintenance. These gardeners incorporate the art of floral design in their plantings with intent to provide enjoyment and beauty for others to experience. Some displays are just spectacular.

We must not forget about the artists that paint flowers on canvasses, boards, dishes, home décor items or even furniture. One very famous American painter of flowers was a woman by the name of Georgia O’Keeffe. She created amazing art masterpieces that grace the walls of many homes and famous public buildings. Her work especially inspired so many people to enjoy the art of floral design.

Most recently interior designers have highlighted the importance of using the art of floral design to enhance interior spaces. There are even television programs focused on interior design or re-design – pay close attention to the end or finished design of interior spaces they highlight and you will likely find the art of floral design included.

The art of floral design is one of few common themes in all of our lives, all around the world. Wherever you go you will come into contact with and experience the art of floral design. Many times it is under-appreciated and overlooked because of the constant clutter or distractions that people are faced with. However, those of us who really have a passion for flowers notice the art of floral design everywhere we look. Can you imagine a life without flowers around you – me neither!
