How to Floral Design – Be Your Own Florist…
When you see a beautiful flower arrangement do you wonder how florists can create something that looks so pretty? You are not alone. Many people think the same thing. Some even go as far as to look into finding training classes on how to floral design.
The intent of how to floral design classes typically is not to turn every student into a master floral designer but rather an opportunity for florist designers to share with the general public how to create some very pretty floral arrangements simply and easily. Mostly these classes are taught by demonstration with step by step instructions. The designs aren’t usually too complicated and fairly easily to re-create by following the teacher.
For those that are interested in learning how to floral design, you can visit any local florist shop and ask the owner or manager if you could observe them or become a mentee under their guidance and instruction. Some florists will even hold a class or a series of classes on how to floral design. This tends to happen during florists slow period, or in preparation for upcoming holidays. Learning directly from a florist is highly recommended if at all possible.
Of course, there are also more advanced how to floral design classes. However, these advanced classes are for those people who already have a good basic understanding of floral design as well as ample floral design experience. The more advanced how to floral design demonstrations and classes are not generally open and available to the general public. They are reserved for those working in the floral trade, and typically are sponsored by floral trade organizations for certification purposes, or to offer continuing education opportunities to florists in order to stay abreast of the latest and greatest trends in floral design.
So the next time you see a pretty floral design, start asking questions and seek out an opportunity to be taught how to create that design by the florist who created to begin with. It certainly can’t hurt to ask the florist to become a mentee, and if they aren’t able to support that then they can usually recommend other instructors or florists that offer how to floral design programs. Most florists are happy to share their knowledge and love of flowers with others.

Great suggestion on contacting a local florist to see if I can be a mentee or observe for a day. I’m looking forward to trying that. Thank you.
