Flower Design Courses – who, where, and why…..
For anyone looking to improve their floral design skills, including those with no previous experience, there are many available programs out there offering flower design courses. For newbie’s (or those with little flower design experience) there are formal flower design courses held at floral schools. In addition there may be flower design courses offered through local adult continuing education organizations.
The more experienced floral designers can find flower design courses available through many other outlets. In some cases, more experienced floral designers may need to attend specific flower design courses to earn continuing education credits required for certification purposes.
Not only are there advanced flower design courses offered at various floral schools, but there are industry and trade organizations that sponsor continuing education opportunities for experienced floral designers. Some industry organizations may include wire service companies (FTD, Teleflora, 1-800 Flowers, FloralSource, etc…), floral wholesale companies (suppliers within the Boston Flower Exchange as an example), industry trade organizations (i.e., SAF – Society for American Florists, AIFD – American Institute of Floral Designers, etc.) promoting certification initiatives.
Beginner and experienced floral designers can also contact any other professional florist to inquire about a mentorship program. Although these programs may not be official flower design courses, they most certainly will provide educational and learning opportunities to those who are mentored. A benefit to this approach is that typically the learning opportunity has a minimal to no cost to the mentee.
Whether you are looking for foundational training or more advanced techniques, there are flower design courses available to meet your requirements. If it’s for certification requirements be sure to validate that the flower design courses qualify for the certification credits. Flower design courses are abundantly available and recommended especially those new to the floral design trade as well as to those that are more experienced.
