Flower Arranging Courses – Supplement Your Floral Skills Development …

Arranging flowers is a true art form. It requires a passion for flowers and personal skills including creativity and floral design knowledge. These skills and passion go together and will result in the ability to create some magnificent floral arrangements. If you have the passion and love of flowers, then you can acquire the other necessary skills by working in a flower shop or taking flower arranging courses.

In addition to what you will learn in flower arranging courses, there are insider tricks, tips, techniques and advice that are usually not taught in class. Obtaining education to learn how to perform flower arranging is an excellent idea if you have no previous experience. Taking courses is good, but learning on the job can be even better in most cases. You will learn things while on the job that just are not taught anywhere else. This is why I recommend to get involved in an actual florist shop first (job or apprenticeship) and then supplement that experience with educational classes.

Having hired students who took flower arranging courses, I have learned that there are certain things which were either not taught in the classes or were not reinforced for application in the “real world” environment. There are lots of reasons why certain information may not be covered in flower arranging courses including time limitations, topic priorities, student management, and the lack of a “real world” environment just to name a few.

Flower arranging courses have their place in floral design skills development. However, they can not and do not take the place of real world life experience by working in a florist environment. True floral creativity becomes inspired in a real world environment because of customer requirements. Interacting with clients and understanding their needs allow a floral designer to express their creativity without classroom boundaries.
