Florists Jobs – tips & suggestions for landing a job…

Professional florist are always looking for good, qualified talented floral designers. Some florists prefer experienced personnel on their staff, while others will hire students directly out of floral school training. Florists jobs are typically advertised in local newspapers and can be found in the help wanted or employment classified sections.

In addition to newspapers, florists jobs may be advertised on the internet (Craigs List, Hot Jobs, Monster.com, etc.) or in floral supply store’s bulletin boards typically located near the entrance or exit doors. Professional floral designers with in depth experience will find florists jobs advertised in industry trade publications (Florists Review, Floral Design Fleur Creatif, etc.) One technique for finding florists jobs is the old fashioned technique of picking up the telephone and calling around to florists to inquire about openings. It is even better to visit a florist shop in person, taking your resume, and speaking with the manager or owner.

Floral design candidates with floral design experience and excellent references are in high demand for florists jobs. These candidates don’t require much, if any, training to get started. Whereas, a new hire with little to no experience requires a lot more attention, focus and training time of the shop management team. However, the most important key factors to landing any of the florists jobs are a positive personality with a can-do attitude, a clear aptitude for floral design including a full understanding and application of basic floral design skills, and a genuine interest in providing excellent customer service.

Florists jobs can be located fairly easily. For those with experience, then call around or stop into a florist shop in person with resume and references. For those with no previous experience and floral school training, then getting placement help from the school is the best bet, and supplementing it with reviewing advertisements on Craigs List and the newspapers and also visiting shops in person to talk with the management staff. Lastly, the people who have no previous experience and no floral school training, then it is best to look for a mentorship arrangement (typically unpaid) with a plan to be hired at a later date once fully trained.
