The art of floral design comes naturally to some individuals. However, a lot of florists began their career by attending florist schools because they either lacked the natural artistic talents or wanted to learn the foundations prior to starting their career as a florist.
Florist schools vary according to the types of training and education they provide. Some schools focus on the education and training of students for a career in floral design, while others may offer specific classes to improve or enhance the design skills of already experienced floral designers.
A good way to determine what the focus is of a particular florist school is to review the information contained online about the floral school. You will learn whom the instructors are, the mission of the school, the curriculum to be covered, and the intended audience for the school. Additionally you may find information about the program fees, application requirements, and program duration.
Admission to a florist school is dependent upon each school’s admission criteria. In general, admission requirements to florist schools are fairly relaxed. A high school diploma is recommended, however it is common that no specific educational pre-requisite is required. Most people who apply are accepted into the programs. The only exception may be for schools that offer very specific courses for experienced professional florists. Typically in these exception cases the schools require prior working knowledge or experience to participate in the program.
