Florist Courses – Where to locate courses…

Whether you are a new person entering the floral industry or an industry veteran there are a multitude of florist courses to suit your needs. Florist courses cover topics from basic color matching theories, choosing plant material, proper container selection and preparation, florist tools and mechanics, understanding essential cut flower preparation and storage, to the elements and principles of design.

There are specialized florist courses covering the fundamentals such as design rules and color concepts, hand-tied flower bouquets, making arrangements to fit the function, using creativity to create unique designs, and the incorporation of non-floral materials into a floral design. Some people choose to take courses that focus on particular types of floral design such as funerals or weddings, while others may take courses to learn how to become a function florist.

Florist courses are offered through many different outlets including the local community adult education programs, the local college or university, the local florist, a nationally known floral trainer, or even a local floral wholesaler and your local arts & crafts retailer. Many times you can find courses to take from listings on bulletin boards usually located near entrances and exits of local stores and coffee shops. There are also local and national floral organizations that also offer advanced florist courses to it’s paying members, along with specialized course seminars held at regional events put on by the floral organization. Another good place to locate florist course offerings is through trade publications or organizations. Search for them on the internet, or find their magazines and literature in bookstores.

Florist courses will provide the beginner or seasoned floral designer with tips, tricks and techniques that can be used for a lifetime when working with flowers. From the corner flower stand florist to a full service florist, there are many different florist courses to choose from that will suit the needs of that type of florist.
