Florist Class – Start your career the right way…

So, you’ve decided that you want to become a florist and not sure where to begin. Some people may just open shop and be in business right away without any training or education. Although this is a possibility, it is not recommended. The odds of success certainly will be against anyone that attempts to start a florist shop without previous education or experience. Instead, it is recommended that you attend at least one florist class to learn the basics before giving it a try. It is very likely that you will take several florist classes before finding a job as a florist or starting your own florist business.

Common sense has prevailed and you agree that you must take a florist class before beginning your career as a florist. The next challenge will be to figure out which florist class to start with. There are many different florist classes available with each having a different focus. There are classes for experienced florists to enhance their skills in a particular design area, while other classes for the beginner florist and even a more general florist class for the casually interested person with no intention of ever becoming a florist.

Subjects for a florist class are just as varied as they are as the different skill levels of the students attending the class. There were be classes that focus on improving design skills, classes on marketing, as well as classes on florist store operations. An introductory class is a perfect way to begin as this class will cover all the basics for becoming a florist. You will want to learn proper techniques and understand all of the tools and equipment used in a florist.

Another idea to supplement your formal schooling and training is to schedule a tour of a flower shop and talk with the owner. It may even be possible to observe them in action for one or more days. This will give you a good idea of what goes on in a florist shop in a given day. Make sure to ask the owner or manager for advice on what florist class they would recommend. They may even be teaching one so be sure to ask.
