Artificial Flower Arrangements – Okay, but not the Real Deal!
As a true flower lover and flower purist, I do not prefer artificial flower arrangements. However, there are certainly times when an artificial flower arrangement is appropriate and serves it’s purpose just fine. In fact, over the years I have been commissioned by numerous clients to create beautiful artificial flower arrangements for specific applications to which I initially was reluctant to do.
I initially declined offers for creating artificial flower arrangements because I just felt like it would diminish the quality of the floral design work that I’ve been known for. However, after some convincing to give it a try and then creating magnificent looking artificial flower arrangements, I have a new outlook and perspective on them.
One of the first things that amazed me is that artificial flower technology has come a very long way from the early days of plastic and “fake” looking flowers. In fact, the main reason I really stayed away and refused to create artificial flower arrangements in the beginning was because I just didn’t like the “fake” appearance of the artificial flowers.
This is no longer the case as there are some gorgeous and real looking artificial flowers in today’s marketplace. It’s actually quite remarkable how manufacturers have been able to develop new products that truly mimic the real thing. It’s sort of funny to watch the untrained person go up to an artificial flower arrangement to take a smell and either realize or not that it is artificial – just amazing how it can fool the unsuspecting admirer.
Artificial flower arrangements are used as alternatives in many different settings. From corporate settings, home settings, or weddings artificial flowers can work well in traditional situations. The advantage of using artificial over fresh is that they last forever without drooping and dying and require little maintenance. I’ve found them to be great substitutes when there are budgetary concerns involved with weekly fresh flower deliveries. Instead of replacing the flowers once a week, companies can have the flowers replaced once a quarter or once every 3 months.
Even though artificial flower arrangements look more and more like the real thing everyday, the trained eye and true flower lovers out there will opt for a fresh arrangement over an artificial one most, if not all, of the time. A primary reason is that part of the personal experience of a flower arrangement is the fresh scent of the flowers and that is missing from artificial flower arrangements. I am one of them – I want real flower arrangements! Tell me what you think by posting a comment below.
